Lucy’s Weight Loss System announced a voluntary recall of all lots of Pink Bikini and Shorts on the Beach Blue and Gold Edition capsules to the consumer level. The product was marketed as a weight loss dietary supplement.

The Pink Bikini and Shorts on the Beach have been found to contain sibutramine and phenolphthalein after testing conducted by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Sibutramine is an appetite suppressant that was pulled from the market in October 2010. It is known to increase blood pressure and/or pulse in some patients and may pose a significant risk for patients with a history of coronary artery disease, congestive heart failure, arrhythmias or stroke.

Phenolphthalein was previously used in over-the-counter laxatives but is currently unapproved for marketing due to its concerns of carcinogenicity. Use of phenolphthalein could lead to seriously gastrointestinal affects, arrhythmias, and cancer with long-term use.

The affected products were distributed May 25–June 23, 2015 with an expiration date of 7/30/2017. The 30 blue capsules contain 750mg per capsule and the 30 gold capsules contain 800mg per capsule. The Company is alerting customers by email and is arranging for return.
