Caverflo.com announced a voluntary recall of all lots of Caverflo Natural Herbal Coffee 25g following a lab analysis that detected sildenafil and tadalafil. Caverflo Natural Herbal Coffee may also contain undeclared milk, according to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) notice.
Caverflo Natural Herbal Coffee was marketed for use as a male enhancement product. It is supplied as 25g black foil packs distributed between August 2016-February 2017. The supplement was sold via the internet.
Sildenafil and tadalafil are phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitors indicated for the treatment of erectile dysfunction (ED). These undeclared ingredients may interact with nitrates contained in some prescription medications (eg, nitroglycerin), and may decrease blood pressure to dangerous levels. Nitrate-containing medications are often taken by male patients with diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol or heart disease. Consumers with milk allergy or severe sensitivity may be at risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reactions if they consume the affected product.
To date, there has been 1 death reported after consumption of the coffee. The Company is notifying customers by email; anyone in possession of the recalled product should discontinue use and discard.
