SAFETY ALERT: FDA Warns Against Use of Evital Emergency Contraceptive

The FDA has notified consumers not to use the emergency birth control medicine labeled as Evital. Evital is not approved in the U.S. and may be a counterfeit of the “morning after pill” and may not be safe or effective in preventing pregnancy. The potentially ineffective and suspect counterfeit emergency contraceptive may be in distribution in some Hispanic communities in the U.S.  The packaging label of Evital says, “Evital Anticonceptivo de emergencia, 1.5mg, 1 tablet”, by “Fluter Domull.”

Patients are advised to contact their healthcare provider if they have taken this medication and experience any adverse events. FDA-approved emergency contraceptives include ella (ulipristal acetate tablet; Watson) and Plan B One-Step (levonorgestrel tablet; Teva).
