OneTouch SureStep glucose meter test strips recalled

LifeScan has announced it is conducting a voluntary recall of eight lots of OneTouch SureStep glucose meter test strips because they may provide falsely low glucose results when the glucose level is >400mg/dL. The following lots, distributed between August 1, 2009 and January 28, 2010, are being recalled: Lot #: 2969251, 2969798, 2982369, 2983467, 2969795, 2982566, 2969481, and 2998193.

Patients with test strips from the recalled lots should call LifeScan at (800) 574-6139  or visit www.SureStep.com to request a replacement. While waiting for the replacement product to arrive, patients with recalled test strips should continue to test their blood glucose. Patients with access to a meter that does not use OneTouch SureStep test strips should use the other meter until the replacement product arrives.  If an alternate meter is not available, patients may continue to test using the recalled OneTouch SureStep Test Strips. However, if patients obtain results above 400mg/dL, they should contact their healthcare professional for further instructions because their glucose may be significantly higher.
