The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is warning consumers not to buy or use “Feng Shi Ling,” a product marketed as an herbal drug for pain due to rheumatoid arthritis and osteoporosis.

An FDA analysis found that Feng Shi Ling contained undeclared active ingredients diclofenac and indomethacin. Both are non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Diclofenac and indomethacin may cause increased risk of cardiovascular events (eg, heart attack, stroke), and serious gastrointestinal damage (eg, bleeding, ulceration, fatal perforation of stomach and intestines). NSAIDs may also interact with other medications and significantly increase the risk of adverse events especially if consumers are already taking NSAID-containing drugs.

Consumers are to discontinue use immediately and discard the product. Feng Shi Ling is manufactured by Hong Kong Chi Chun Tang Herbal Factory and is sold on various websites and some retail stores.
