The FDA is warning consumers to not purchase or use Arth-Q, a product sold as a dietary supplement for joint, muscle, and arthritic pain. Arth-Q was confirmed to contain the hidden ingredient ibuprofen, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID).
The hidden drug in Arth-Q may interact with other medications and increase the risk of cardiovascular events like heart attack and stroke, especially if consumers are already taking other NSAID products. There is also an increased risk for gastrointestinal damage of bleeding, ulceration, and fatal perforation of the stomach and intestines.
These products are sold nationwide through various distribution channels, including the internet and retail stores. The FDA recommends consumers to discontinue and discard any dietary supplement with these labels immediately. Consumers should consult a healthcare professional immediately if they experience any negative side effects, such as unusually dark stools or urine, stomach pain, increased bruising, or other signs of bleeding.
