The FDA has issued advisories on seven adulterated dietary supplements promoted and sold for sexual enhancement. Lab analysis has confirmed that each of these products contains an active hidden ingredient which may be harmful to patients with conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, or heart disease. The seven products identified are:
- Fuel Up Plus and Fuel Up High Octane: both contain hydroxythiohomosildenafil, which is structurally similar to sildenafil, the active ingredient in the FDA-approved prescription drug Viagra
- Ultra SX, Sex-Love Secret Code, Super Dragon 6000, Apexxx: all contain sildenafil, the active ingredient in the FDA-approved prescription drug Viagra.
- Wild Sexx: contains sildenafil and tadalafil, the active ingredients in the FDA-approved prescription drugs Viagra and Cialis, respectively.
These undeclared ingredients may interact with nitrates found in some prescription drugs such as nitroglycerin and may lower blood pressure to dangerous levels. Healthcare professionals and patients are encouraged to report adverse events or side effects related to the use of this product.
