Genetic Edge Compounds issued a recall of all lots of GEC Laxoplex dietary supplement capsules due to contamination with anabolic steroids and steroid-like substances.
GEC Laxoplex is sold as a dietary supplement promoting muscle enhancement. FDA analysis identified the presence of anabolic steroids and steroid-like substances in GEO Laxoplex capsules, making it an unapproved drug with no established safety or efficacy.
The consumption of products containing anabolic steroids can cause acute liver damage and serious long-term effects such as shrinkage of testes, male infertility, masculinization of women, breast enlargement in males, short stature in children, increased predilection for drug/alcohol misuse, adverse effects on blood lipid levels, and a higher risk of heart attack, stroke, and death.
GEC Laxoplex is supplied as 60-count bottles with UPC code 0058049984. The product was distributed between February 2, 2015 to May 2, 2017 through various retail outlets. The Company is notifying its retailers and customers via a formal recall notice and is arranging for return of all impacted products.
Healthcare professionals and patients can report adverse events related to the use of GEC Laxpolex to the FDA’s MedWatch Safety Information and Adverse Event Reporting Program.
