Lopressor (metoprolol tartrate) 1mg/1mL solution for IV injection has been discontinued by Novartis Pharmaceuticals. The decision to discontinue the product is business-related and not based on efficacy or safety findings.
Several generic manufacturers are also reporting shortages of Metoprolol Injection 1mg/mL, with some product backordered until early 2016. The shortage is linked to a demand increase for the drug.
Lopressor Injection is indicated in the treatment of hemodynamically stable patients with definite or suspected acute myocardial infarction to reduce cardiovascular mortality when used in conjunction with oral Lopressor maintenance therapy.
