Over 700 Bottles of Tainted Weight Loss Pills Recalled
Life & More LLC announced a voluntary recall of 783 bottles of Akttive High Performance Fat Burner Gold capsules marketed as weight loss supplements.
Akttive High Performance Fat Burner Gold was found to contain sibutramine, desmethylsibutramine, and phenolphthalein. Sibutramine is an appetite suppressant that was withdrawn from the market in October 2010 due to increased risk of seizures, heart attacks, arrhythmia, and stroke. Phenolphthalein was an ingredient found in over-the-counter (OTC) laxatives but is no longer approved for marketing in the United States due to concerns of carcinogenicity.
Consuming products containing sibutramine can increase blood pressure and/or pulse rate in some patients and may place patients at risk for those with history of coronary artery disease, congestive heart failure or stroke. Consuming products containing phenolphthalein may lead to potentially serious gastrointestinal disturbances, irregular heartbeat, and cancer.
The affected products have Lot #00185004400 with an expiration date of 12/17. They are supplied in 30-count bottles and were distributed from January 2012–July 2015.
