Amturnide approved for treatment of hypertension

Novartis announced that the FDA has approved Amturnide (aliskiren, amlodipine, hydrochlorothiazide tablets), a fixed-dose combination therapy for the treatment of hypertension in patients who are not adequately controlled on any two of the following antihypertensive drug classes: direct renin inhibitor, calcium channel blockers, and diuretics.

Reese Pharmaceuticals recalls mislabeled guaifenesin products

Reese Pharmaceuticals announced a voluntary recall of 60-count sized bottles of guaifenesin 200mg tablets from Lot# 091612 sold under four different brand names: Refenesen Expectorant, Select Brand Mucus Relief Expectorant, QC Medifin Expectorant, and Leader Cough Tabs Expectorant because cold decongestant tablets (containing acetaminophen 325mg, phenylephrine 5mg and chlorpheniramine maleate 2mg) were mislabeled as containing only 200mg guaifenesin tablets.

Sorafenib in Combination With Standard Induction and Consolidation Therapy in Elderly AML Patients: Results From a Randomized, Placebo-Controlled Phase 2 Trial

Hubert Serve of the Goethe University of Frankfurt in Frankfurt, Germany, and colleagues conducted a multicenter, randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blind, phase 2 trial in elderly (>60 years) AML patients to evaluate the effect of sorafenib in combination with standard chemotherapy and as a maintenance therapy for up to 1 year. The findings from this study were presented at the 52nd American Society of Hematology Meeting and Exposition.
