Ure-Na Launched for Hyponatremia Management
Nephcentric announced the launch of Ure-Na (urea), a new medical food for the management of euvolemic and hypervolemic hyponatremia, including syndrome of inappropriate ADH secretion (SIADH).
Oral urea has been available for many years but is known for its strong bitter taste. Ure-Na is a a lemon-lime flavored drink mix that utilizes a proprietary flavor masking formula. Each single-dose serving can be mixed in 3–4 ounces of water or juice. Urea normalizes blood sodium levels by inducing water loss in the urine without a risk of loss of essential electrolytes such as potassium, calcium, and magnesium. Treatment with urea is particularly helpful in cases of SIADH.
Ure-Na contains 15g urea per pouch and is supplied in 8-count cartons. It is available over-the-counter (OTC) but is intended for use under medical supervision.
