Certain Personality Traits Linked to Social Media Addiction
Certain personality traits may make a person more likely to develop a social media addiction, according to research conducted at Binghamton University.
To shed light on personality traits and social media usage, the researchers used the five factor model (FFM) as their foundation, a method that has been used in the past to understand relationships between other forms of addiction. Self-reported data was collected from nearly 300 college-aged students, which formed the basis for the analysis.
"It's more of a holistic approach to discover what kind of people are more likely to develop an addiction," said Isaac Vaghefi, assistant professor at Binghamton University, and lead author of the study. "Rather than just focusing on one personality trait, this allows you to look at an all-inclusive personality profile."
