New Drug-Free Therapy Available for Arthritis Pain
A new FDA-approved Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS) and Electrical Muscle Stimulation (EMS) portable device that helps treat arthritis pain is now available.
The PlayMakar—manufactured by iReliev— is a wireless unit that provides both TENS and EMS to help treat acute and chronic pain symptoms (eg, arthritis pain). The non-invasive device comes with two wearable receivers which are rechargeable via a pod; once charged, they can be applied to the joint experiencing pain or muscle soreness. One remote can control a maximum of four receivers.
The device has 14 preset therapy modes designed to block acute or chronic pain or to imitate exercise recovery, endurance and muscle strength. Treatment time can be set between 5 to 60 minutes with customizable intensity. TENS works by blocking pain signals from the brain and EMS uses electric impulses to condition and strengthen muscles.
