Scott Woodman, MD, PhD, of the MD Anderson Cancer Center, discusses uveal melanoma and treatments that are both localized to the eye as well as cases for which the melanoma extends beyond the eye. Dr. Woodman discusses recent advances in the understanding of uveal melanoma, such as pinpointing gene mutations present in about 85% of cases along with immune-system therapies that have been advanced for skin melanoma treatment. A synthesis of these two types of treatment provides a new outlook on the therapeutic possibilities for the disease.
