Sotera Wireless, Inc. announced that the FDA has cleared its patented continuous non-invasive blood pressure (cNIBP) technology, a new feature of the ViSi Mobile wireless patient monitoring system.

The ViSi Mobile System is the first wrist-worn monitor to measure core patient vital signs: cNIBP, heart rate, electrocardiogram, blood oxygenation level, respiration rate, and skin temperature.

Currently, obtaining accurate and continuous “beat-to-beat” blood pressure requires catheter insertion, which exposes patients to discomfort and possible infection.

However, through ViSi Mobile’s wireless technology, the vital signs data is transmitted to clinicians for remote viewing or notification devices. Also, safety features such as an advanced alarm management alerts clinicians of negative changes in a patient’s condition.

Some studies have shown that cNIBP technology has demonstrated a bias of <5mmHg when compared with invasive arterial line procedures.
