Walgreens to Sell Labcorp COVID-19 Test Home Collection Kit in Stores

To increase access to COVID-19 testing, Walgreens has entered into an agreement with Labcorp to sell the Pixel by Labcorp^™ COVID-19 PCR Test Home Collection Kit over-the-counter (OTC) nationwide beginning this spring.

In December 2020, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) granted Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) for the Pixel by Labcorp COVID-19 Test Home Collection Kit for use by individuals 18 years of age and older without a prescription. This kit will be Walgreens first OTC COVID-19 testing option available for purchase in-store at the pharmacy counter and is intended to address stores that do not currently have testing available on-site. 

The kit includes a specific Q-tip-style cotton swab and saline for individuals to collect a nasal sample. Once collected, the sample can be mailed to a Labcorp lab for testing via pre-paid FedEx Express Overnight. The nasal samples will be analyzed using Labcorp’s COVID-19 RT-PCR Test and results can be accessed via the Pixel by Labcorp website. If the test is positive, a Labcorp-verified health care staff member will contact the person directly by phone or mail to discuss next steps.

The out-of-pocket cost for the kit is $119.
