U.S. News & World Report released the 2016 Best Diets featuring ranking and information on diet plans to hep those who diet achieve healthier lifestyles. Each diet is accompanied by a detailed profile that includes how it works, evidence that supports or refutes its claims, and a nutritional snapshot. 

Out of the 38 total diets, the health experts panel ranked DASH as the Best Overall Diet for the 6th year in a row. This was followed by the MIND diet and TLC diet, which tied for Number 2. Weight Watchers kept its rank as the Number 1 Weight-Loss Diet, and tied with the Mayo Clinic diet as the Best Commercial Diet. The HMR program and Biggest Loser Diet tied for Number 1 in the first Fast Weight-Loss Diets category.

New diets were added to the 2016 rankings, including the MIND diet, Whole30 diet, and the Fertility Diet. The MIND diet combines DASH and Mediterranean diets and focuses on foods that promote brain health. The Whole30 diet bans processed foods, legumes, grains, dairy, alcohol, and added sugar. The Fertility Diet claims that changes in diet, weight, and activity can help you conceive faster. 

The panel of experts included nutritionists and physicians specializing in diabetes, heart health, and weight loss. They scored each diet for short- and long-term weight loss, ease of compliance, safety and nutrition. Also, diets were ranked in 9 categories including diabetes (1. Fertility Diet, 2. Biggest Loser Diet, 3. DASH Diet) and heart disease prevention and control (1. Ornish Diet, 2. TLC Diet, 3. DASH Diet), easiness to follow, and likelihood of weight loss.
