Afaxys announced the availability of Tarina Fe 1/20 (norethindrone acetate and ethinyl estradiol tablets and ferrous fumarate tablets, 1mg/20mcg/75mg) for the prevention of pregnancy in women who choose to use oral contraceptives as a method of contraception.

Tarina Fe 1/20 contains norethindrone acetate, a progestogen, and ethinyl estradiol, an estrogen. Combination oral contraceptives act by suppression of gonadotropins. Although the primary mechanism of this action is inhibition of ovulation, other actions include changes in the cervical mucus and the endometrium. The ferrous fumarate tablets facilitate ease of drug administration via the 28-day regimen, and do not serve any therapeutic purpose.
