Synera Patch Now Approved for Home Use

Galen US Incorporated announced that the FDA has approved Synera (lidocaine and tetracaine) topical patch to be used at home for the prevention of needle stick pain associated with superficial IVs and superficial dermatological procedures in patients >3 years old.

Synera patch combines 2 anesthetics, lidocaine and tetracaine, with warming technology. Lidocaine is an amide-type local anesthetic agent and tetracaine is an ester-type local anesthetic agent. Both lidocaine and tetracaine block sodium ion channels required for the initiation and conduction of neuronal impulses, resulting in local anesthesia.
