Same-day genetic testing service available for safer warfarin dosing

Machaon Diagnostics has launched a same-day genetic testing service for patients that have been prescribed warfarin (Coumadin, from Bristol-Myers Squibb). Forty percent of the general population has at least one genetic variation of the two key genes involved in the metabolism of warfarin, which can lead to >5-fold differences in weekly warfarin dose. Machaon’s FDA-approved array-based technology detects the genetic variations to aid in determining an accurate initial dose.
