GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) Consumer Healthcare is voluntarily recalling 5 lots of Benefiber Healthy Shape Prebiotic Fiber Supplement powder and Benefiber Prebiotic Fiber Supplement powder due possible plastic contamination. According to the Company, it is possible that the products may contain green plastic pieces or shavings from the bottle cap.
The recalled lots were distributed from October 28, 2019 through January 21, 2020 to retail stores and online retailers nationwide. The recalled products include:
- Benefiber Healthy Shape Prebiotic Fiber Supplement, 500g; UPC 886790018872; Lot MP8B (Expiration Date 09/2021).
- Benefiber Prebiotic Fiber Supplement, 500g; UPC 886790218302; Lots: YT2Y (Expiration date 10/2021), 7D6E (Expiration Date 11/2021).
- Benefiber Prebiotic Fiber Supplement, 500g; UPC 8886790211907; Lots UV5C (Expiration date 10/2021), 648H (Expiration Date 11/2021).
According to GSK Consumer Healthcare, use of the recalled products carries a potential risk of choking or physical injury to the soft tissues of the mouth or gastrointestinal tract if the broken pieces or shavings are not seen prior to consumption. At this time, the Company has received 1 consumer complaint.

The Company is notifying its retail and wholesale customers impacted by this recall regarding the return of all recalled products. Consumers in possession of any recalled product should discontinue use immediately.
