Refresh Optive Mega-3 Available for Dry Eye Relief

Allergan announced the launch of Refresh Optive Mega-3, a new supplement for patients with Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD) who suffer from dry eye. 

Mega-3 contains flaxseed and castor oil, which work to strengthen the lipid layer and protect the tears from evaporating. The natural, plant-based oils help hydrate the three layers of the tear film. Mega-3 also is formulated with carboxymethylcellulose (CMC), a lubricant that is present in all Refresh Optive formulas. The polymer binds to epithelilal cells to lock in moisture on the ocular surface for comfort and relief. 

All Optive products have the patented osmoprotectant formula comprised of three solutes: glycerin, I-carnitine, and erythritol. These solutes help fortify the corneal epithelial cells from hypertonic stress. Trehalose, another osmoprotectant, is found in Refresh Optive Mega-3 as an additional way to address symptoms of dry eye. 

Refresh Optive Mega-3 is available over-the-counter (OTC) and is supplied as 30-count single-use vials.
