A recent article on the website The Daily Beast asserted that “being a doctor has become a miserable and humiliating undertaking” and compared being a primary care physician to being a janitor “but without the social status or union protections.” A post on the American College of Physicians advocacy blog disagreed with this position, citing survey data showing that doctors earn substantially more than other fields, rank high in social status, and find their careers rewarding.

If you had to do it all over again, would you still want to be a physician?
