Intuity Medical announced  that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has cleared the POGO Automatic Blood Glucose Monitoring System, the first blood glucose meter and multi-test cartridge to provide automatic testing with lancing, blood collection, and analysis.

POGO combines all of the testing supplies into a self-contained 10-test cartridge. Patients no longer need to carry and use separate glucose testing supplies such as a lancing device, lancets, and test strips. In a clinical study of 287 patients, over half indicated they would better adhere to their clinician’s recommended testing schedule using POGO as compared to their current blood glucose meter.

By pressing the POGO test port, the device automatically lances the patient’s finger, collects a blood sample, and shows the result in 4 seconds; only a small blood sample (0.25mcL) is required for analysis. After the 10 tests are used, the patient can discard the self-contained cartridge without having to handle the used test strips or lancets.

The POGO Automatic Blood Glucose Monitoring System can be combined with the proprietary Patterns Diabetes Management application, a cloud-based system for managing glucose information. Healthcare professionals and patients can use this platform to identify and manage trends that affect overall glucose control.
