The FDA has approved Plan B One-Step (levonorgestrel tablet, from Teva), a one-pill emergency contraceptive indicated to help prevent unintended pregnancy when taken within 72 hours after known or suspected unprotected sex or contraceptive failure. Plan B One-Step will be available over-the-counter to women ≥17 years of age, whereas postpubertal women <17 years of age will require a prescription.
Plan B One-Step is expected to be available within the next month. It will come in a 1.5mg dosage strength.
