Panorama Prenatal Screening Test To Launch

Natera announced plans to launch Panorama, a non-invasive prenatal screening test for the detection of trisomy 21 (Down syndrome), trisomy 18 (Edwards syndrome), trisomy 13 (Patau syndrome), and select sex chromosome abnormalities such as monosomy X (Turner’s syndrome). Panorama uses fetal cell-free DNA found in maternal blood and the test can be performed within the first trimester of pregnancy, as early as 9 weeks.

In clinical studies, Panorama demonstrated a sensitivity of >99% when detecting common chromosomal abnormalities such as trisomy 21, trisomy 18 and trisomy 13; and 92% when detecting monosomy X. Also, Panorama demonstrated a specificity of 100% with no false positives for all the syndromes tested.

Panorama’s technology analyzes 19,500 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in a single reaction, and utilizes the NATUS [Next-generation Aneuploidy Testing Using SNPs] algorithm.

Panorama is expected launch on March 1, 2013.
