Nephron Pharmaceuticals announced the launch of Asthmanefrin (racepinephrine inhalation aerosol) Inhaler for temporary relief of bronchial asthma in patients >4 years old. This product is an over-the-counter (OTC) alternative to the discontinued Primatene Mist (epinephrine inhalation aerosol; Armstrong) chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) inhaler.
The Primatene Mist CFC inhaler was removed from the market by the FDA and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) on December 31, 2011, due to its CFC propellant. Asthmanefrin does not contain any CFCs or preservatives.
Asthmanefrin inhaler will be available starting late August in a starter kit and refill package. The starter kit will include 10 Asthmanefrin vials and the EZ Breathe Atomizer; the refill package will include 30 Asthmanefrin vials. The EZ Breathe Atomizer is an OTC device that sprays liquid medication in aerosol form into the air that a person will inhale.
