Bayer has announced that the FDA has approved Natazia (estradiol valerate and estradiol valerate/dienogest) tablets for the treatment of heavy menstrual bleeding (HMB) that is not caused by any diagnosed conditions of the uterus in women who choose an oral contraceptive for contraception. This new approval makes Natazia the first oral contraceptive indicated for the treatment of HMB.
Natazia was approved in May 2010 for the prevention of pregnancy. Natazia is the first oral contraceptive that contains an estrogen called estradiol valerate and a progestin called dienogest. Estradiol valerate is a synthetic estrogen that is converted to estradiol in a woman’s body.
