Pharmavite announced the recall of certain lots of Nature Made products due to possible Salmonellaor Staphylococcus aureus contamination after discovering that proper testing was not conducted for specific batch lots.
The affected products include:
- Nature Made Adult Gummies Multi 90- and 150-count bottles: Lot #1196066, 1196071, 1205052
- Nature Made Adult Gummies Multi + Omega-3 150-count bottles: Lot #1173600
- Nature Made Adult Gummies Multi for Her plus Omega-3s 100- and 150-count bottles: Lot #1196048, 1196050
- Nature Made Super B Complex w/ C & Folic Acid Tablets 140-, 360-, 460-count bottles: Lot #1173779, 1170987, 1204735, 1173146, 1204001
Salmonella is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in younger children, frail or elderly individuals, and others with weakened immune systems. Symptoms of infection may include fever, diarrhea (may be bloody), nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. More severe illnesses can include arterial infections (eg, infected aneurysms), endocarditis, and arthritis.
Staphylococcus aureus toxin present in food may lead to food poisoning with a rapid onset of symptoms. The severity may depend on individual susceptibility to the toxin, the amount of toxin in the food ingested, and overall health of the individual. The most common symptoms are nausea, vomiting, retching, abdominal cramping, and prostration. More severe cases may include headache, muscle cramping, and changes in blood pressure and heart rate.
Pharmavite is contacting all retail customers and distributors to remove the affected products from store shelves immediately. The Company has recognized the cause of error and has implemented corrective actions to rectify the issue.
