The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) reports that two dosage strengths of Pfizer’s Pencillin G Procaine are currently in shortage. Penicillin G Procaine 1,200,000 Units/2mL prefilled syringe (2mL) and Penicillin G Procaine 600,000 Units/1mL prefilled syringe (1mL) are reportedly on backorder. The reason for the shortage as per the FDA is due to a manufacturing delay.
Penicillin G Procaine is an antibiotic that exerts a bactericidal action against penicillin-susceptible microorganisms during the stage of active multiplication. It acts through inhibition of biosynthesis of cell-wall mucopeptide.
The next delivery is anticipated for February 2017. Short dated products will be available September 30, 2016.
