Lilly has announced that their Humulin N (insulin isophane suspension [NPH]) and Humulin 70/30 (insulin isophane suspension [NPH] 70% [human, recombinant], regular insulin 30% [human, recombinant]) original prefilled pens will be phased out in the first quarter of 2014.

Eli Lilly has announced that their Humulin N (insulin isophane suspension [NPH]) and Humulin 70/30 (insulin isophane suspension [NPH] 70% [human, recombinant], regular insulin 30% [human, recombinant]) original prefilled pens will be phased out in the first quarter of 2014.

Humulin N and Humulin 70/30 are indicated for adults with diabetes mellitus to improve glycemic control, and Humulin N is also indicated for children with diabetes mellitus.

The original Prefilled Pens will be replaced with the Humulin N and Humulin 70/30 KwikPens, which will carry a different National Drug Code (NDC) and will function differently. Patients may need initial instructions on how to use the device and Eli Lilly is encouraging distributors and pharmacies to carry both devices during the transition to meet patient needs.

Humulin N and Humulin 70/30 KwikPens will be available in 3.0mL disposable pens in 5-count boxes.
