Hepatitis A Vaccine Supply Constrained Due to Ongoing Outbreaks

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), supply of the adult hepatitis A vaccine is currently constrained due to ongoing outbreaks in several U.S. cities and an increase in demand for the vaccine. In addition, manufacturers of the hepatitis A vaccine (GlaxoSmithKline and Merck) also report that unexpected demand has limited supply globally.

To address this increase in demand, the CDC is working with public health officials to make sure the vaccine is targeted to areas that need it most. Vaccine manufacturers are also looking at ways to increase supply domestically and are working with the CDC to monitor public and private vaccine orders.

This issue only applies to the adult vaccine; the pediatric hepatitis A vaccine supply is currently not affected.
