Hailie Solution Now Available for Tracking Asthma, COPD Medication Use

Through Bluetooth technology, clinicians and patients will be able to share and monitor inhaler usage.

The Hailie solution, an inhaler add-on sensor and smartphone app, has launched in the US after being granted 510(k) over-the-counter clearance by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The Hailie sensor is designed for use with Symbicort (budesonide, formoterol fumarate dihydrate; AstraZeneca), ProAir HFA (albuterol sulfate; Teva), Ventolin HFA (albuterol; GlaxoSmithKline), and Flovent HFA (fluticasone propionate; GlaxoSmithKline) inhalers. The sensor attaches to the inhaler and is designed to help adherence by tracking a patient’s medication use and reminding them when it is time to take the next dose. Through Bluetooth technology, clinicians and patients will be able to share and monitor inhaler usage.

Adherium, the company behind the sensor and app, has also launched an online portal for healthcare professionals and clinicians to analyze patient-group data from the Hailie sensors.
