Anafranil, a tricyclic antidepressant, is indicated to treat obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). It is presumed to influence obsessive and compulsive behaviors through its effects on serotonergic neuronal transmission. The actual mechanism is unknown but its capacity to inhibit the reuptake of serotonin (5-HT) is thought to be of significance.
Clomipramine HCl carries a boxed warning regarding the increased risk of suicidal thinking and behavior in children, adolescents, and young adults in short-term studies of major depressive disorder and other psychiatric disorders. Patients who initiate therapy should be monitored and observed for clinical worsening, suicidality, or unusual changes in behavior.
Clomipramine HCl Capsules are available as 25mg, 50mg, and 75mg strengths in 100-count bottles.
