Teva announced the availability of Tiagabine HCl Tablets, the generic of Cephalon‘s Gabitril.

Gabitril is a GABA reuptake inhibitor indicated as adjunct treatment in partial seizures. It is believed that tiagabine blocks GABA uptake into presynaptic neurons, permitting more GABA to be available for receptor binding on the surfaces of post-synaptic cells. Clinical studies have shown that inhibition of GABA uptake occurs in synaptosomes, neuronal cell cultures, and glial cell cultures.

Tiagabine HCl is available in 2mg and 4mg dosage strengths in 30-count bottles.
