Teva announced the launch of Risedronate Sodium Tablets, the generic version of Warner Chilcott’s Actonel.
Actonel is a bisphosphonate indicated for the treatment and prevention of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women. Actonel has an affinity for hydroxyapatite crystals in bone and acts as an antiresoprtive agent. At the cellular level, Actonel inhibits osteoclasts. The osteoclasts adhere normally to the bone surface, but show evidence of reduced active resorption. It also reduces bone turnover and bone resorption at remodeling sites.
