Perrigo announced that the FDA has approved its abbreviated new drug application (ANDA) for Nitroglycerin Lingual Spray, the generic version of Shionogi’s Nitrolingual Pumpspray.

RELATED: Cardiovascular Disease Resource Center

Nitroglycerin is a nitrate currently indicated for acute attacks and prophylaxis of angina pectoris due to coronary artery disease. Nitroglycerin relaxes vascular smooth muscle, producing a vasodilator effect on both peripheral arteries and veins with more prominent effects on the latter. Arteriolar relaxation then reduces systemic vascular resistance and arterial pressure.

Nitroglycerin Lingual Spray is available in a 400mcg/spray strength. Perrigo has begun shipment of the product.
