Teva announced the availability of Rajani (drospirenone/ethinyl estradiol/levomefolate calcium tablets and levomefolate calcium tablets), the generic version of Bayer HealthCare‘s Beyaz.
Rajani is a combination oral contraceptive that raises folate levels in women who choose to use an oral contraceptive for contraception. In addition, Rajani is indicated to treat symptoms of premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) for women who choose to use an oral contraceptive for contraception, to treat moderate acne for women aged ≥14 years old only if the patient desires an oral contraceptive for birth control.
Rajani combines a progestin, an estrogen, and a folate. Combination oral contraceptives reduce the risk of becoming pregnant primarily by suppressing ovulation. Other possible mechanisms may include cervical mucus changes that inhibit sperm penetration and endometrial changes that reduce the likelihood of implantation.
Rajani is available as a 3mg/0.02mg/0.451mg and 0.451mg strength in 3×28 tablet dispensers.
