Mylan Launches Generic Zosyn

Mylan announced the launch of Piperacillin and Tazobactam for Injection, the generic version of Pfizer’s Zosyn injection.

Piperacillin and Tazobactam, a combination penicillin antibiotic and beta-lactamase inhibitor, is indicated for the treatment of moderate to severe infections caused by susceptible isolates of certain bacteria. It works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to one or more of the penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) which inhibit the final transpeptidation step of peptidoglycan synthesis in bacterial cell walls. Piperacillin exhibits time-dependent killing and tazobactam inhibits beta-lactamases.
