Mylan announced the launch of Ampicillin and Sulbactam for Injection, the generic version of Pfizer’s Unasyn.

Unasyn is an antibiotic that combines ampicillin, a broad-spectrum penicillin, and sulbactam, a a beta-lactamase inhibitor. It is indicated for the treatment of infections due to susceptible strains of designated microorganisms in skin and skin structure infections, intra-abdominal infections, and gynecological infections. Ampicillin acts through the inhibition of cell wall mucopeptide biosynthesis. Sulbactam exerts inhibitory activity against the clinically important plasmid mediated beta-lactamases most frequently responsible for transferred drug resistance.
