Mylan announced the launch of Fluvastatin Sodium Extended-Release Tablets, the generic version of Novartis‘ Lescol XL

RELATED: Dyslipidemia Drug Indications Chart

Lescol XL is a HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor indicated to reduce elevated total cholesterol, LDL-C, Apo B, and triglyceride, and increase HDL-C in adults with primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia, as an adjunct to diet, when response to diet and other non-pharmacological treatments (eg, exercise, weight reduction) is inadequate. The inhibition of cholesterol biosynthesis reduces the cholesterol in hepatic cells, which stimulates the synthesis of LDL receptors and thereby increases the uptake of LDL particles. The end result of these biochemical processes is a reduction of the plasma cholesterol concentration.

Fluvastatin Sodium Extended-Release Tablets are available as a 80mg strength.
