Mylan announced the launch of Doxycycline hyclate delayed-release (DR) tablets, 150mg, the generic version of Warner Chilcott‘s Doryx tablets.

Doxycycline hyclate is a tetracycline antibiotic indicated for tetracycline-susceptible infections including respiratory, genitourinary, rickettsial, and trachoma infections. It is also indicated for postexposure prophylaxis and treatment of anthrax, as well as for the treatment of acne. These bacteriostatic antibiotics bind to the 30S subunit of bacterial ribosome to inhibit bacterial protein synthesis. Tetracyclines primarily exhibit activity against atypicals and have some activity against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria.

Doxycycline hyclate is already available from Mylan in 75mg and 100mg dosage strengths.
