Amneal announced the future launch of Lomedia 24 Fe (norethindrone acetate/ethinyl estradiol and ferrous fumarate), the generic version of Warner Chilcott’s Loestrin 24 Fe.

Loestrin 24 Fe was approved in February 2006 as an oral contraceptive. The primary mechanism of action is inhibition of ovulation, and other alterations include changes in the cervical mucus (which increase the difficulty of sperm entry into the uterus) and the endometrium (which reduce the likelihood of implantation).
Lomedia 24 Fe contains 24 progestogen-estrogen tablets (1mg norethindrone acetate and 20mcg ethinyl estradiol) and 4 ferrous fumarate tablets (75mg).
Lomedia 24 Fe will be available in cartons of 3 blister cards in the first week of January 2014.
