Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories announced the launch of Divalproex Sodium Extended-Release Tablets, the generic version of AbbVie’s Depakote ER.

Depakote ER is indicated for the prophylaxis of migraines, for the treatment of acute manic or mixed episodes in bipolar disorder, and for the treatment of absence seizures and complex partial seizures. Divalproex sodium dissociates to the valproate ion in the gastrointestinal tract. It has been suggested that its activity in epilepsy is related to increased brain concentrations of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA).

Divalproex Sodium Extended-Release Tablets are available in 250mg and 500mg strengths. The 250mg tablets are supplied in 100-count bottles, and the 500mg tablets are supplied in 100- and 500-count bottles.
