Abbott announced that the FDA has cleared its FreeStyle Lite blood glucose test strips. FreeStyle Lite test strips do not use the GDH-PQQ enzyme, which can be affected by common non-glucose sugars (eg, maltose or galactose), but rather the GDH-FAD enzyme which is unaffected by common non-glucose sugars and minimizes the potential for other interference. FreeStyle Lite test strips are compatible with all FreeStyle Lite blood glucose monitoring systems. The FreeStyle Lite strips also feature the ZipWik tapered test strip design to ensure faster blood application and to reduce the number of error messages and wasted test strips.
FreeStyle Lite test strips are expected to be available in July 2010.
