Rinovum Women’s Health announced that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has cleared The Stork OTC, the first home-use conception assistance device.
The Stork OTC provides users a way to perform cervical cap insemination on their own, a technique that was previously available only by prescription. The device is intended for use in couples trying to become pregnant and in those seeking to conceive without intercourse, including those with certain disabilities, LGBT couples, and single women. It is designed to help low sperm count, sperm motility issues, unfavorable vaginal environment, and unexplained infertility.
The Stork OTC consists of an updated cervical cap and an applicator device used to insert the cap. Semen is collected in the cap during natural intercourse and the the applicator places it near the woman’s cervix. The cap stays in place for up to 6 hours and is then removed with the attached cord.
The prescription version of The Stork was launched in the summer of 2013 and is now cleared for over-the-counter sales.
