The active ingredients in FIRST Mouthwash BLM are comparable to those found in the most routinely prepared formulation of Magic Mouthwash containing Benadryl (diphenhydramine; McNeil Consumer & Specialty), lidocaine, and Maalox (aluminum hydroxide, magnesium hydroxide; Novartis Consumer Health). The kits are made for one patient and include pre-weighed powders, and a pre-measured suspension for the pharmacist to reconstitute prior to dispensing.

Magic mouthwashes are indicated for the treatment of pain and inflammation associated with mucositis caused by radiation therapy or chemotherapy, aphthous and other oral ulcers, and mouth pain.
