Prolacta Bioscience announced the launch of Prolact RTF, the first ready-to-feed (RTF) human milk-derived premature infant formula.

Prolact RTF is made from 100% human donor milk (compared to cow milk), and is indicated for use when the mother’s own milk is not available and fortification is needed. Prolact RTF delivers nutrition for premature infants in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). This RTF formula leads to less errors with mixing and a more efficient preparation time.

Studies have demonstrated that extremely premature infants (500–1250g at birth) have a significantly lower incidence of surgery associated with necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) and require less days of feeding through total parenteral nutrition (TPN) when fed a 100% human milk diet vs. a preterm formula.

Prolact RTF is available frozen in 125mL bottles containing 100mL (3.38 floz) of human milk foritfied to 24cal/floz, 26cal/floz, and 28cal/floz.
