First Flushable Pregnancy Test Cleared for OTC Use

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has cleared for market the first flushable, biodegradable pregnancy test, the Lia Pregnancy Test (Lia Diagnostics) for over-the-counter use.

The Lia Pregnancy Test is made with the same plant based fibers as most toilet paper and weighs less than 6 squares of the leading 3-ply toilet paper. The new test was developed to meet a desire for discretion and to be more environmentally friendly. The Company stated in a press release that it was specifically created, ‘For women who value privacy, empowering users to choose how to share their results.’ 

“Lia is the only discreet pregnancy test made with zero glass fibers, batteries, plastic or nitrocellulose – elements found in nearly all single-use diagnostics available on the market today,” stated Chief Product Officer, Anna Couturier. “Lia provides the only sustainable solution to-date.”

The Lia Pregnancy Test is expected to be available by mid-2018.
